Stainless Steel Plate Suppliers: ASTM A240 304, 304L, 316 & 316L

If your project specifies stainless steel plate, the grade, standard and surface finish decide both performance and cost. Shaanxi Shuncheng Tian Steel supplies ASTM A240 stainless steel plates in the four most requested grades — 304, 304L, 316 and 316L — with strict thickness tolerances and a mill test certificate on every delivery. This page gives you the specification data you need to order with confidence.

Stainless Steel Plate Grades We Supply

GradeStandardKey PropertiesTypical Applications
304ASTM A240~18% Cr, ~8% Ni; excellent general corrosion resistanceFood equipment, kitchenware, architectural cladding, storage tanks
304LASTM A240Low carbon (≤0.03%); better weldability, no post-weld sensitizationWelded tanks and vessels, heavy fabrication
316ASTM A240~16% Cr, ~10% Ni, ~2% Mo; superior chloride and chemical resistanceMarine, chemical processing, pharmaceutical, coastal construction
316LASTM A240Low carbon 316; resists intergranular corrosion at weld seamsChemical reactors, heat exchangers, pharmaceutical process lines

Why Buy Stainless Steel Plate from Shuncheng Steel

  • Mill test certificate on every delivery — chemical composition and mechanical properties documented per batch, so your quality inspection is simple.
  • Full grade coverage — 304, 304L, 316 and 316L in one order, including mixed-grade procurement for large projects.
  • Strict thickness and flatness control — verified against ASTM A240 tolerances before shipment.
  • Export experience for industrial buyers — packing, marking and documentation prepared for sea freight and project delivery.
  • Cut-to-size and fabrication support — shearing, laser cutting and surface finishing coordinated for your schedule.

What Drives Stainless Steel Plate Price

Plate pricing is quoted per grade, thickness, finish and quantity, and moves with nickel and molybdenum market prices. When you request a quotation, we price against the current mill cost — no inflated list prices, no surprise charges. Bulk orders and annual contracts receive volume-based pricing.

How to Order Stainless Steel Plate

  1. Send your specification — grade (304, 304L, 316 or 316L), thickness, width, length, surface finish and quantity. If you are unsure which grade suits your environment, include the application details and our engineers will recommend one.
  2. Receive a mill-direct quotation — we confirm availability, lead time and packing, with the mill test certificate included in the offer.
  3. Inspect on delivery — every batch ships with its MTC, so incoming quality inspection is straightforward.

For pressure-vessel or project-critical orders, specify the standard and any supplementary requirements at quotation stage so they are reflected in the mill certificate.

FAQ

What is the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel plate?

316 adds roughly 2% molybdenum to the 304 base composition, giving it markedly better resistance to chlorides, saltwater and industrial chemicals. For marine, chemical and coastal environments, 316 (or 316L for welded sections) is the safer specification.

What does the L in 316L stainless steel mean?

The L stands for low carbon (maximum 0.03%). Lower carbon prevents chromium carbide precipitation at weld seams, so 316L keeps its corrosion resistance in the heat-affected zone without post-weld heat treatment.

Which standard do your stainless steel plates comply with?

Our stainless steel plates are supplied to ASTM A240, the standard covering chromium and chromium-nickel stainless steel plate, sheet and strip for pressure vessels and general applications.

Do you provide mill test certificates with plate orders?

Yes. Every delivery from Shuncheng Steel is accompanied by a mill test certificate (MTC) documenting the chemical composition and mechanical properties of the batch.

What surface finishes are available for stainless steel plate?

We supply 2B, No.1, No.4 and mirror finishes. No.1 suits heat-resistant and industrial applications, 2B and No.4 are common for food and architectural use, and mirror finish is specified where appearance matters.
